Fifteen of the awards went to Training Support Division personnel, while the other five went to personnel in Procurement. The list of the awardees is on Page 3, and the five Procurement Team personnel, along with Procurement Manager Toni Powell, are in the photo below. The recognitions, consisting of an eagle emblem, a framed certificate, a distinctive eagle pin, and a cash award, were awarded during presentation ceremonies within the various divisions and sections around the project during February. The awards were presented for a variety of individual and team efforts throughout the project:
  • Five members of the Procurement Division, Linda Keichline, Leslie Long, Tammy Mansker, Gabriela Meza, and Cindy Moss contributed to an outstanding effort at the end of the last fiscal year by making over $1.5 million in end-ofyear materials and services purchases. They additionally assembled another $1 million in cost estimates during the same time period. Not only did they meet the tight deadline, but they negotiated a combined realized cost savings to the government of more than $250,000.
  • Three members of the Training Support Division’s Devices Section, Ben Jaramillo, Robert Schaller, and Kelly Banwarth, were cited for their excellent performance in November and December when they fabricated and painted over 500 targets of twelve different shapes and sizes in support of an unusually large contingent of soldiers. Working in extreme conditions, the task was completed in superior fashion, safely and on time.
  • TSD MOUT Branch employees William Curland, Jason Francisco, Jose Orea, Pete Perez, and Tony Wilson received awards for fabricating and assembling a Provincial Government Center for the Al Jaff MOUT site. The team employed innovative ideas and new fabrication methods that streamlined all phases of the construction, resulting in the project coming in well under the cost estimate and being completed ten days ahead of schedule.
  • In similar outstanding fashion, Joseph Estrada, Randy Gray, and David Silva of the TSD MOUT Branch were tasked with fabricating and assembling a mosque at the Al Karma MOUT site. The expertise and experience of the team resulted in an innovative and unique structure that was completed five days ahead of schedule.
  • Greg Caraveo from the Training Support Division’s MOUT Branch was cited for his invaluable involvement in both the Provincial Government Center and mosque projects.
  • Manuela Webb, a member of the TSD CREW Team, received an ORP award for the valuable part she has played supporting the project’s safety culture as safety monitor of her section. One example of her commitment to the Take 2 concept occurred recently when she noticed a problem with a Joint EOD response Vehicle (JERV), reported it, and had the vehicle deadlined for a suspension problem that might have otherwise gone unnoticed until it resulted in injuries to soldiers.
  • Range Support Specialist David Janisko from TSD was recognized for his excellent customer service, his “can do” attitude, and for continuously going above and beyond to serve customers and peers in the area of vehicle operations and maintenance. Soldiers and IAP employees alike benefit from his tireless dedication and expertise. He is a great example to all of his colleagues.
  • Joseph Lealofi, a Supply Clerk assigned to the Supply Section of the Training Support Division was commended for his expertise in training soldiers prior to their deployment overseas. Recently, he performed exceptionally well by ensuring 226 soldiers qualified in the EST (Engagement Skills Trainer) on Night Fire and Protective Mask Fire. He additionally supported the HEAT (Humvee Egress Assistance Trainer) with the train the trainer program, resulting in 29 soldiers becoming HEAT trainers for their units.

    Star Employee of the Month

On Thursday, February 18th, Management Analyst Leslie Weston from the MWR Division was presented with the Star Employee of the Month Award at a ceremony at the Ingalls Recreation Center. Consisting of a star plaque, a distinctive pin, $100 cash, and a selection of special IAP promotional material, the award was presented by General Manager Jeff Williamson. Cake and refreshments were served following the ceremony. Leslie was commended for the great job she has done since joining the IAP Team. Her work within the MWR Division has created big changes in the way facilities are run.

She has proved over and over that she is able to obtain any information needed on behalf of IAP, and that if she doesn’t have an answer, she knows where to get it. She has been a great coworker, always helping everyone who needs help, and she has repeatedly taken on tasks to insure that everyone gets their work done on time. She also has a great attitude, and can always be counted on to think of ways to make things better. She puts extra work into all the special events that MWR has held, doing work indoors and outdoors, sometimes working multiple events in one day. She has received praise not only from the division manager, but also upper level employees on the government side such as the FMWR Director and Recreation and the Director of Community and Recreation. She impresses everyone with her knowledge and creative thinking, and brings a smile to everyone she works with.

The Star Employee of the Month Award is presented to one employee every month. All employees approved for a Fast $50 Award from the 11th of one month to the 10th of the following month are candidates for the award. Project Management makes the final selection of the winner.
