Patuxent River Naval Air Station
The Patuxent River Naval Air Station Complex (Pax River)
stretches across 25 miles of shoreline 65 miles southeast
of Washington, D.C. and 90 miles south of Baltimore. As
the home for three major Navy commands, Pax River has become
the largest employer in the community, with more than 20,000
people living and/or working on site.
Since 1994, IAP has provided facilities maintenance and base
operations support, constantly responding to changing customer
needs. With an increased number of naval units being re-stationed
at Pax River over the years, IAP’s customer wanted
a system for tracking service orders and then re-billing
expenses to the various naval clients who work at Pax River.
Using IAP’s web-based Business Operating
System (BOS),
project managers at Pax River are able to access the Maximo
work control system to automatically match up service orders
with the appropriate building and client. Contract administrators
with the Navy can essentially track the workflow real-time.
IAP also uses the Business Operating System and Maximo to
generate automatic, random quality control inspections, assigning
inspectors to follow up on a job in one of four areas — customer
satisfaction, quality, resources or administration — with
the area assigned by the computer. Over time the random inspections
paint an accurate and thorough picture of the work quality,
allowing managers to target ongoing problem spots or zero
in on best practices that are working well and worth replicating
at other IAP project sites.
