Fort Gordon
In
1980, Fort Gordon was the
first U.S. Army installation to award a major commercial
service contract under the A-76 initiative. The Army selected
IAP, which in 2005 celebrated its 25th year providing installation
support services at the Fort Gordon campus, comprised of over
1,500 buildings representing 9.6 million square feet of space
near Augusta, Ga.
Flexibility has played a role in the longtime partnership
with the Army at Fort Gordon. When the war in Iraq dramatically
increased troop mobilization and demobilization demands,
IAP assumed responsibility for the reconstitution of Army
equipment and power generators after their return from the
harsh desert environment in the Middle East. In June 2006,
that refurbishment work led to the U.S. Army Forces Command
(FORSCOM) designating the IAP Maintenance Division at Fort
Gordon as a Center of Excellence (COE). IAP operates a “One
Stop Shop” with a 90-day turnaround for the field reset
of each military unit’s equipment. By co-locating equipment
as it’s retrofitted, IAP has reduced transportation
costs and the amount of time to complete the work, resulting
in substantial savings for the Army.
IAP cost savings’ programs can be found across Fort
Gordon. The project's water treatment plant team implemented
environmental process improvements that have saved $150,000
annually by reducing chemical purchases and eased permit
renewal for the water and sewage treatment plant.
In April 2005, IAP’s Fort Gordon Support Project won
the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Dwight D.
Eisenhower Award for Excellence in the services category,
recognizing the company’s outstanding record of providing
subcontracts to small, minority and women-owned businesses.
To put this honor in perspective, the SBA works with more
than 2,500 federal contractors and only one in each of four
categories (manufacturing, services, construction, and research
and development) is selected for this recognition annually.
