U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
For more than 20 years, IAP has worked with the U.S. Patent
and Trademark office coordinating file management services.
In partnership with Diversified Technology and Services of
Virginia, Inc., IAP performs work for two contracts at the
U.S. Patent Office: a support services contract and a contract
known as Patent Data Capture II, designed to transition the
office into a “paperless” environment.
The IAP team provides front-end support to the Office of
Initial Patent Examination for both U.S. Patent applications
and documents, along with Foreign Applications as outlined
under PTO’s Patent Cooperative Treaty. The IAP team
also collects patent fees and provides clerical support for
the Trademark Law Offices.
On average, IAP employees are responsible for opening, reviewing
and routing an average of 8,000 mail documents daily.
Under the Patent Data Capture II contract, IAP employees
scan paper documents into an Image File Wrapper system, which
allows the public to easily view and download images of file
histories for U.S. patents and published applications. This
remarkable information retrieval system sorts patent information
into both public and private online files with real-time
information as part of the Patent Office’s commitment
to make its processes accessible and more efficient.
