IAP Awarded NATO contract to Provide Air Traffic Control and Navigation Equipment Maintenance
Cape Canaveral, FL – IAP Worldwide Services, Inc. was awarded a 5-year contract under a NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) program to provide air traffic control, airfield management and navigation equipment maintenance services for Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. The contract has a 36-month base period and 2 one-year option periods with a potential value of $113 million for the full term of the contract.
Charged with assuming responsibility for Air Traffic Management and other services, NATO and NAMSA (NATO’s contracting entity) issued a solicitation in April 2009, which was ultimately won by IAP and its key subcontractors, Midwest Air Traffic Control Services, Inc. and Lockheed Martin. IAP and its winning team were providing these services at Kandahar AB and other airports in the region since 2003 for the Department of Defense.
“Kandahar AB supports 30,000 or more NATO and U.S. personnel, and has recently been acknowledged as the busiest single-runway airport in the world,” said Gene Kearns, IAP’s NAMSA Project Manager. “Our team has a track record of proven success in safely meeting aviation needs, especially in hostile environments. We are proud to continue our partnership with Midwest and Lockheed Martin in providing these critical mission support services for NATO.”
IAP has provided air traffic management and maintenance services at several locations in Southwest Asia for U.S. Air Forces Central Command, and earlier played a leading role in developing Afghanistan’s air traffic control system to support Operation Enduring Freedom.
